WAR OF 1812

 

Canada released several commemorative 25 cent coin by portraying heroes of War 1812 . During the War of 1812 the militia helped protect Montreal from the United States. Each coin was issued in two versions: one with a red maple leaf with the date 1812 in white script. The other features the portrait with a frosted finish and an uncolored maple leaf.

LEGENDARY NATURE COIN

 

 

Canada released a series of  three color 2011 dated coins called Canada's Legendary Nature. The stylized designs feather native animals. Included is the Wood Bison, which comes a bright green spot over the bison. The Orca which comes with a bright blue spot, signifying the sea. The Peregrine Falcon comes with a bright yellow sun over its wings.

 

REMEMBRANCE COIN

 

 Canada issued their latest colored circulating coin in 2010 in honor of the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II.  The coin features a soldier standing between two red and black poppies with the maple leaf in the background.  The coin bears the dates 1945 and 2010 on the reverse.  Queen Elizabeth is on the obverse.  The red poppy is Canada’s flower of remembrance for those who died in war.  We also have available a limited number of previous circulating colored coins.

AWARD WINNING BREAST CANCER COLOR COIN

In 2006, Canada issued their second colored coin for circulation.  The 25 Cent coin is intended to raise the awareness of breast cancer.  The reverse of the coin pictures a pink ribbon.  Queen Elizabeth is on the obverse.  The coins was honored "Most Technologically Advanced Circulation Coin" by the World Mint Directors Conference and  as the "Best New Coin" by the International Association of Currency Affairs.

POPPY COIN

Canada issued this circulating multi-color commemorative 25 cent coin picturing a red poppy in 2008 to honor the 90th anniversary of the Armistice agreement that brought World War I to an end.  The design is similar to the famed 2004 Poppy Coin which was the world's first circulating color coin, and which the United States Department of Defense mistook for a "nano-technology" spy coin.  The 2008 coin has different legends, and utilizes an improved technique for affixing the color.

SPY COIN

In early 2007 the United States Defense Department issued an espionage warning about Canadian coins with suspicious "nano-technology" that contained radio frequency transmitters were being used to track US defense contractors. The report turned out to be a major embarrassment to the government. The coin in question turned out to be a regular issue 2004 Canadian colored Poppy quarter. The Poppy quarter was the first colored coin issued for general circulation in the world.
